Looking for a Shifter alternative?

If you’re looking for unlimited backconnect proxies, Shifter’s current pricing pages may surprise you: residential plans come with a fixed number of gigabytes, and Shifter’s billing docs say extra traffic is charged from your wallet once the plan is used up. If your job grew and the overage line keeps growing with it, that’s usually the reason to look around.

Storm Proxies prices residential by the port. You rent residential ports by the month and push as much data through them as you need. The trade-off is real: Storm’s residential IPs are USA or EU with no city targeting, you get as many parallel connections as ports, and there is no SOCKS5.

400 GB of residential traffic a month

Take a rank tracker or price monitor that pulls about 400 GB a month through rotating residential IPs. That’s exactly the size of Shifter’s Growth plan, so here are both bills using today’s published prices.

Shifter residential Growth, 400 GB$299/moListed price ($0.75 per GB). Go past 400 GB and the extra is billed per GB.
Storm Proxies residential, 5 ports$50/moNo data cap. Need more parallel connections? 10 ports are $90/mo.

The comparison isn’t one-to-one. Shifter’s plan comes with unlimited concurrent connections and city-level targeting. Storm’s 5-port plan gives you 5 ports, and each one hands out a new USA or EU IP every 5 minutes. If your crawler needs far more parallel sessions, you scale ports: 50 ports cost $300/month, about the same as the Shifter plan, and still have no data cap.

Where Shifter wins on price: small or country-specific jobs. Its Starter plan is $50/month for 50 GB, and its Non-Geo pool starts from $0.10 per GB, which is hard to beat if you move little data and don’t care where the IPs are.

For static IPs, both sides charge a flat price. Shifter’s ISP proxies cost $1.68 per IP on the 25-IP plan (listed price), each one kept in your chosen city and ISP. Storm’s private dedicated proxies are $2 per proxy, starting at 5 for $10/month, in Cheyenne, LA and NY.

Gigabytes vs ports: how each one bills you

Shifter sells residential traffic. Its pricing page lists monthly plans with included bandwidth: 50 GB for $50, 100 GB for $100, 200 GB for $149 and 400 GB for $299 (listed prices, shown as discounts off higher list prices). There are no ports to manage. You connect to one gateway, pick a country, city or ASN, and Shifter counts the gigabytes.

Storm sells connections. A residential port is a gateway that gives you a new IP every 5 minutes. You buy as many ports as you need parallel connections, from 1 port for $19 to 100 ports for $550, and none of them has a data limit. A slow month and a heavy month cost the same.

Neither model is wrong. Per GB rewards light, targeted use. Per port rewards heavy, steady use in the USA or EU.

Where Shifter is stronger

Where Storm Proxies is stronger

  • No traffic meter. Every plan, residential included, has unlimited bandwidth. No wallet top-ups, no overage.
  • Cheap rotating datacenter IPs. 10 threads for $14/month on a 700,000+ IP pool, with a new IP per request or sticky IPs for 3 or 15 minutes. Good for Scrapebox and GSA SER.
  • A lower entry price for residential. 1 unlimited port costs $19/month.
  • Ready-made packs for ticket sites, AIO Bot and social accounts.
  • Simple setup. Whitelist your IP, paste the gateway into your tool, done.

Who each one is best for
