Storm Proxies vs Decodo
Decodo is the new name of Smartproxy. It sells residential, mobile, ISP and datacenter proxies plus scraping APIs, mostly billed by the gigabyte, with targeting down to city and ZIP code. Storm Proxies sells fewer things and bills them differently: a fixed monthly price per thread, port or IP, with unlimited bandwidth. Here’s where each one makes more sense.
Pick Storm Proxies if…
- Your traffic is heavy and hard to predict. Storm never counts gigabytes, so a busy month doesn’t cost extra.
- You run rank trackers, Scrapebox or GSA SER and want a fresh datacenter IP per request from a 700,000+ pool, from $14/month.
- You only need USA or EU residential IPs and want a fixed bill: 1 port for $19/month or 10 ports for $90/month.
- You want simple US dedicated IPs: 5 for $10/month, with IP or user:pass login.
Pick Decodo if…
- You need precise targeting: Decodo’s residential network filters by country, state, city, ZIP code and ASN across 195+ locations.
- Your stack depends on SOCKS5. Decodo supports it on residential and datacenter proxies; Storm is HTTP(S) only.
- You want to test first: a 3-day residential trial with 100 MB, and a 14-day money-back guarantee on first purchases (with usage limits).
- You also need mobile proxies, a scraping API or a site unblocker from the same account.

Looking for a Decodo alternative?
Decodo, which many people still know as Smartproxy, is a broad platform. You get a big residential network, fine-grained targeting and a scraping API under one login. The catch for some users is the meter. Residential traffic costs $2.75 to $4 per GB on self-service plans, and datacenter can be bought by the GB too, so the bill rises with every page you fetch.
Storm Proxies takes the meter away. You buy a number of threads, ports or IPs, and the data through them is unlimited. That suits SEO tools, scrapers and bots that run all day in the USA or EU. The trade-off is real: no city or ZIP targeting, no SOCKS5, no free trial and a much smaller list of locations.
A 500 GB datacenter month, priced both ways
Take a rank tracker or price crawler that pushes about 500 GB a month through rotating datacenter IPs. On Decodo the natural fit is its pay-per-GB datacenter plan. On Storm it’s a rotating plan with enough threads for the job.
Residential shows the same pattern at a smaller volume. Decodo’s 100 GB residential plan is $275/month. Storm’s 10 residential ports cost $90/month and don’t care whether you move 100 GB or 1 TB.
Where Decodo wins on price: very small jobs. Its 10 GB datacenter plan is $6 and 3 GB of residential traffic is $11.25, both below Storm’s cheapest matching plans. And if you need a narrow target, such as one US city or a mobile IP, Decodo can do it and Storm can’t.
Smartproxy became Decodo. The billing stayed per GB.
If you remember Smartproxy, Decodo is the same company under a new name. Its footer still says “formerly smartproxy.com”. The product line has grown: residential, static residential (ISP), mobile and datacenter proxies, plus a Web Scraping API and a Site Unblocker.
On Decodo you mostly pay for traffic. Residential plans run from 3 GB at $3.75 per GB to 100 GB at $2.75 per GB, and enterprise volumes go down to $2 per GB at 1 TB. Datacenter traffic is $0.6 per GB on the smallest plan and $0.45 per GB at 1000 GB. Pay-per-IP plans include a set amount of traffic, and dedicated datacenter, from $2.50 per IP, comes with unlimited traffic.
On Storm you pay for capacity. Threads on rotating proxies, ports on residential, IPs on dedicated. Bandwidth is never counted. If your workload is steady and runs in the USA or EU, a flat plan is easier to budget than a per-GB one.
What Decodo does better
- Targeting. Country, state, city, ZIP code and ASN on residential. Storm offers USA or EU on residential.
- Reach. 195+ residential locations and a 115M+ IP residential pool, against Storm’s 20M+.
- SOCKS5 on both residential and datacenter proxies.
- A way to try before paying full price: a 3-day trial with 100 MB on residential, and a 14-day money-back window on first purchases if you’ve used under 20% of the traffic.
- More products in one place: mobile proxies, scraping APIs and free browser extensions.
What Storm Proxies does better
- A bill that doesn’t move. Unlimited bandwidth on rotating, residential and dedicated plans alike.
- Cheap rotation at volume. 80 rotating threads cost $59/month and 200 threads $147/month, with a new IP per request or sticky IPs for 3 or 15 minutes.
- Residential without a GB counter. 5 ports for $50/month from a 20M+ pool, IP refreshed every 5 minutes.
- Packs for niche jobs: ticket sites, AIO Bot, Instagram and Facebook, ready to use.
- Nothing to configure. You get gateway IPs, whitelist your own IP, and paste them into your tool.
Who each one is best for
SEO tools and rank tracking
Lots of threads, lots of requests, modest per-request data but big monthly totals. Storm’s rotating proxies fit this well, from $14/month for 10 threads.
Scraping with geo targeting
If you need results from a specific city or ZIP code, Decodo’s residential targeting is the right tool. If country-level USA or EU is enough, Storm residential keeps the cost flat.
Sneakers and tickets
Storm has ready-made residential packs for AIO Bot and ticket sites, 20 ports for $160/month, plus private ticket proxies.
Managing social accounts
One account, one stable IP. Storm’s Instagram and Facebook proxies are 5 for $15/month. Decodo’s static residential (ISP) proxies are another option if you need residential-looking static IPs.

Storm Proxies vs Decodo: questions people ask
What’s the best Decodo alternative?
It depends on what bothers you about Decodo. If per-GB billing is the issue and your targets are in the USA or EU, Storm Proxies is a good fit: flat plans with unlimited bandwidth, rotating datacenter from $14/month and residential from $19/month per port. If you need city or ZIP targeting, mobile IPs or SOCKS5, Decodo already covers those, so staying may make more sense.
Is Decodo the same as Smartproxy?
Yes. Smartproxy rebranded as Decodo. Decodo’s homepage says “Smartproxy is now Decodo”.
Is Storm Proxies cheaper than Decodo?
For heavy traffic, usually. 500 GB a month on Decodo’s datacenter plan is $240, while Storm’s 40 rotating threads are $39 with no data limit (prices checked October 2026). For a few gigabytes a month, Decodo’s small plans cost less.
Does Decodo have unlimited bandwidth?
On dedicated datacenter proxies, yes: Decodo lists them from $2.50 per IP with unlimited traffic. Its residential and pay-per-GB datacenter plans are billed by traffic. Every Storm Proxies plan has unlimited bandwidth.
Does Storm Proxies have city targeting like Decodo?
No. Storm’s residential IPs are USA or EU, and rotating datacenter plans cover USA, EU, USA+EU or Worldwide. For city, ZIP or ASN targeting, Decodo is the better choice.
Can I move my Smartproxy setup to Storm Proxies?
Yes, if your tool accepts HTTP(S) proxies. Swap Decodo’s endpoint for Storm’s gateway IPs, add your server’s IP to the whitelist in the member area, and you’re running. Tools that only work over SOCKS5 won’t work with Storm.
